ROBERTO JUAREZ

"Art for Global Peace" is on view at ABBA FINE ART May 12, to July 11, 2012. “Art for Global Peace” are a selection of early paintings and drawings by Roberto Juarez from Robert Miller’s private collection. Some works included in the exhibition were created while Roberto was living in Miami in the late 1990's. Juarez began to use peat moss as a medium for preparing his canvases, which he then covered with rice paper, creating an earthy backdrop for his elegant paintings of flowers and plants. The resulting images have a kind of beauty that almost literally grows from the earth. He utilizes natural materials - rice paper and a dusting of peat moss, etc., to give the work added texture, strength, and beauty that brings a touch of serenity.

Recently, Roberto’s art works have been shown at the National Academy Museum, Berkshire Museum, and New York art galleries, including Pace Prints, Project Room, and Charles Cowles Gallery. A site-specific installation “Flower Fence”, 2011, mixed media on board was created for the Miami International Airport.

Roberto Juarez was born in Chicago, IL, and received a BFA at San Francisco Art Institute 1975, and Graduate Studies at University of California at Los Angeles 1978. Roberto Juarez works hang in many museums, collections, and pubic places across the country, including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Denver Art Museum, El Museo del Barrio, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Miami Art Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, amongst many others.

ABBA FINE ART represents emerging and mid-career artists. For further information about this exhibition or for a private viewing, please contact the gallery at (305) 576-4278 or via email.
