BASEL DICE is a selection of contemporary works from Abba Fine Art’s stable of artists presenting several contrasting points of view. Each artist speaks in a different visual language and technique. The message is dynamic, giving the artists the liberty to explore the creative process freed from a central theme. With the diverse techniques for creating art and different methods of interpreting life, they aim to introduce a clear message, be it through philosophy, music, nature, psychology, the figure or a reinterpretation of familiar icons. The artists various life experiences bring a unique perspective to the concept of art and its role in today’s society.
Anna Barten depicts the beauty of the pregnant curves through the photographic lens and follows through with traditions laid out by our most ancient cultures by continuing to praise the mother figure. She swapped the paintbrush for the tools of Photoshop to create light images. Arlene Berrie’s expressionistic paintings explore Pop culture icons. The pop expressionistic paintings include whimsical toy characters, cartoon superheroes, and signage. It is through these furry comfortable creatures that she delves into the concepts of substantiality and comfort. Emanuele Cacciatore uses a variety of materials and application methods to explore painting as an instrument to redefine reality. He’s in complete command of the tools of his trade and it is through brushes, knives and even stencils that Cacciatore builds up the rich surfaces of his paintings. Los Angeles area artist Tony Caltabiano photographic images explore some of the lesser-known wilderness areas on the fringes of urban sprawl in California. He often works into the print with oil and acrylic glazes. It is through the process of painting that these landscapes become more than photographic images. Emmy Cho’s paintings feed off the history of abstraction, Taoist philosophy, Chinese landscape painting, and modern physics. She creates a dynamic dialogue between a belief in beauty and a passion for color. Contradictory subjects are made to work together in order to achieve what Cho calls a “visual globalism”- an astute portrayal of modern society. Debra Holt creates unique photographic images of powerful abstract and figural compositions that focus upon reflective and mysterious forces. By creating harmony between light and color, she engages the viewer through large-scale sensuous and colorful works with hidden meanings and symbols. Los Angeles Artist/Record Producer David McConnell’s paintings, video, and sound installations were created when McConnell had decided to leave the recording industry in LA to focus on his new artworks. He blends his musical knowledge with paintings and installations. Louis Ulman is a romantic realist who has mastered a variety of subjects including the figure, landscape, still life and animals. The artist is fascinated by the human figure and uses spatial arrangement to create images that reflect emotion.
From multiple solo exhibitions to participation in museums, these artists have shown their work in New York, Florida, Chicago, California, abroad in Paris, Norway, Australia and many other places.
