Abba Fine Art is pleased to announce Anna Barten's exhibition Mamma Mia, a series of light images. She depicts the beauty of the pregnant curves through the lens and follows through with traditions laid out by our most ancient cultures by continuing to praise the mother figure, albeit in a more contemporary context.
Although all of Barten’s images focus on one specific subject matter, they all have their own unique identity, whether it is brought on by the woman being depicted, or by the artist’s own manipulation of the image. In Mamma Mia, Barten is combining her two loves, painting and photography, with sculptural forms as her inspiration. Barten has swapped the brush for the tools of Photoshop in order to create light images as Evolving. She adds something of her own to get rid of the identity of the individual, and preserving the basic symbolism of fertility. Using her editing skills and her training as a painter, she transforms the photographs reducing the images to their primal iconography, while retaining their power and their meaning.
Anna Barten received a Bachelor of Education (Fine Art) from Sydney College of Advanced Education in NSW and has received both State and National awards in Australia with her photography. She has earned recognition of photographic excellence from the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, and the Australian Photography Awards. Her general photographic work has been shown in Australia, and published in People Weekly, The Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times.
